Job Vacancy – Part Time Active Travel Trainer

Salary – £16,882  pro rata.

Fixed term contract till March 2018 with a possible extension till 2020. (Subject to funding)

MEC is seeking to appoint an Active Travel Trainer to support the delivery of the Active Travel programme.

Middlesbrough Environment City are looking for 4

Local Environmental Service Apprentices


Start date – August 2017

Weekly Wage – £131.25

37.5 hours per week


Based at Sandy Flatts Lane, Acklam, Middlesbrough, TS5 7YN

The role will include

  • Supporting community and school growing projects through cultivating crops, from seed sowing through to harvesting and distribution.
  • General site maintenance such as grass cutting, strimming and hedge cutting, including the use of powered machinery.
  • Soil preparation and weed control on community sites.
  • Maintaining and running community composting sites.
  • Landscape construction on community and school sites, including creating paths, raised beds and compost bays.
  • Maintaining waste and disposal and recycling facilities.
  • Maintaining both composting and plumbed toilet facilities.
  • Pruning of fruiting and flowering plants.


No formal qualifications are required however a good general level of education is desirable to enable apprentices to complete the knowledge requirements as well as English and Maths requirements.
