Environment City has its main office at 50a, The Avenue, Linthorpe, TS5 6QT,
approximately 1.5 miles south of Middlesbrough Town Centre. The office is
located within the Catholic Diocese of Middlesbrough buildings adjacent to
Holy Name of Mary Church, on the corner of The Avenue and Eastbourne Road in
Linthorpe. Our entrance is via the front of the building (facing the car park) through the black double doors. There are steps up to the front doors. If you require step free access to the office, or need other help in accessing the premises, please contact us on (01642) 811300. Middlesbrough is proud to have been awarded Beacon Status for Tackling Climate Change in March 2008. Please help us to show our commitment to dealing with this important global issue by travelling by sustainable means whenever possible. |
| By train and bus |
|
Middlesbrough is well served by rail services, with direct trains from Manchester, Leeds, York, Darlington (principal station for main line connections to London) and Newcastle. Local trains also run from Saltburn, Whitby and Hartlepool. There are no buses from the railway station. However, it is only a short walk to the nearest bus stops on Albert Road. If you arrive at Platform 1, proceed to the booking hall, which is adjacent to the platform. If you arrive at Platform 2, go through the subway to Platform 1 and proceed to the booking hall. From here, walk past the shop in the booking hall towards the exits and immediately turn left, leaving the station through the side exit and going down the steps onto the road. This is Albert Road. Turn right and continue along Albert Road, crossing Zetland Road and passing under the A66 Flyover. You will then need to cross another road (Wilson Street) and continue along Albert Road. The spire and clock of the Town Hall will now be visible further up Albert Road on the opposite side. The bus stands are located outside the Town Hall. As you arrive at the next junction, with Corporation Road, cross both roads via the pedestrian crossings and walk to the bus stops. The total walking time from the railway station to the Town Hall is 8 minutes. MEC’s office is well served by buses which leave from stands along Albert Road. The most frequent are: Arriva 63 to Redcar (Stand P); Arriva 27 to Eagle Park or Marton (Stand P, do not board the 27 to Netherfields, it goes the opposite way); and Stagecoach 11, 12 and 13 to Coulby Newham or Hemlington (Stand R). During the daytime there are frequent buses on the route and the maximum wait should be no more than 8 minutes. Ask the driver for “The Avenue, Linthorpe”. Current fares are £1.00 single on both Arriva and Stagecoach. Change is given, so you don’t need the exact fare. As the bus departs you get good views on the left hand side of the Victorian Town Hall, the library and the new Central Square and Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art. The journey time to The Avenue is approximately 12 minutes. You will know you are approaching The Avenue when you pass Albert Park, one of Middlesbrough’s four Green Flag Parks, on the left, and then go through Linthorpe Village. After leaving Linthorpe, the bus goes through a left hand curve and the stop is immediately after this bend. Press the “Bus Stopping” buzzer as soon as the bus leaves Linthorpe Village. On leaving the bus, continue up The Avenue, in the same direction of travel. Cross Lancaster Road and Eastbourne Road and continue on The Avenue. Turn left at the entrance to Holy Name of Mary Church. The entrance to the office is on the front of the building. Walking time from the bus stop to the office is 2 minutes. Overall the maximum journey time during the day from the railway station to the office should be no more than 30 minutes. |
| By bus |
|
If you are coming to us by bus, then it is most likely that you will catch a bus from the Bus Station. However, there are direct services to the Avenue from Hemlington, Coulby Newham, Redcar, Stokesley and East Middlesbrough. From the bus station, the following services go to The Avenue: Stagecoach 11 from Stand 13; Stagecoach 12 and 13 from Stand 14. Arriva 17 from Stand 10; Arriva 27 from Stand 7; Arriva 63 from Stand 8. |
| By cycle |
|
The offices are located less than half a mile from National Route 65. Although the most direct route from the town is via Linthorpe Road, we strongly encourage you to use the cycle route, which is much safer and passes through Albert Park (from the town centre) and goes alongside Natures World (from the south). A Middlesbrough cycle route map is available from us on request. Leave Route 65 at the shopping centre on Eastbourne Road, turning left from the south or right from the town centre. Proceed to the junction with The Avenue, turning left and then immediately left into the entrance to the church. There is no cycle parking available outside the building – please bring your cycle into the offices where we have racks in the vestibule. Cycles should be locked – spare locks are available at the office. |
| On foot |
|
The office is a 30 minute walk from the Town Centre. Walk south down Linthorpe Road, the main pedestrianised shopping street and just keep walking along the road until you reach us. Linthorpe Road becomes The Avenue at Linthorpe village. |
| By taxi |
|
Taxis are available from outside the bus station and the railway station. |
| By car |
|
Please try to use an alternative to your car when visiting us. If you do need to drive, on-line systems such as www.transportdirect.info will provide you with directions on how to reach us by car from our post code. If you are travelling from the north or south along the A19, it is best to exit this road at the A1130 Acklam exit, rather than the A66 exit, as this avoids the Town Centre area. Parking is available outside the offices or on adjacent residential roads if the car park is full. As anywhere, please do not leave valuables, such as mobiles phones, radios and sat-nav systems, on view.
