This year’s challenge was set to year 9’s of all the town’s Secondary Schools.  They were given two years worth of data on their school’s gas, electricity and water usage.  With the assistance of a mentor and local Councillor they were asked to explore ways of reducing the use of these utilities.  Any number of students could be involved in the project with a team of 4 presenting their findings and recommendations to the Dragons in the Den (Council Chamber, Town Hall).

The five participating schools and a team from the Town Hall came together on 30th March to present to the Dragons who were: Ian Parker, Chief Executive Middlesbrough Council; Cllr David Budd, Deputy Mayor; Lisa Holt, wedo-marketing; and Mark Fishpool, Director Middlesbrough Environment City.

After the excellent presentations the Dragons deliberated at some length and announced
Kings Academy the overall winners. On 6th April the team from Kings Academy went on a trip to London to visit BedZED, a carbon neutral community, and the skip garden at Kings Cross.
