Bee Friend aims to protect and promote Middlesbrough’s urban bee
population to encourage healthy food crops in community gardens and
allotments.
The project
will train 80 urban farmers in basic beekeeping skills and has created
four community apiaries at allotment sites at Whitehouse, Town Farm and
Saltersgill, and at Stewart Park as well as supporting Middlesbrough’s
first school beehive at Hemlington Hall Primary.
Bee Friend is a partnership project between Middlesbrough Environment City, Middlesbrough Council and the Cleveland Beekeepers’ Association and is funded by a Big Lottery Local Food grant with match funding provided by the Healthy Town programme. |
